The Crown of the Continent

Montana caters to the adventurous traveller

Looking for something exciting to do before the warm weather leaves us?  Whitefish Mountain Resort offers multiple activities over 3000 acres of terrain.  Most of it is accessible with a single 7-1/2 minute lift ride. Their website asks “Lift lines? What are those?”

This video depicts one of six available ziplines used to tour the resort.  What song would be playing in your head while you rode one of these?

Other activities at the resort include the Alpine Slide, four hiking trails, walks in the treetops, mountain biking, and a day spa, among others.

Leading up to Labour Day, the Ravalli County Fair will be  continuing its century old tradition of relaxation, and entertainment.  Activities include two rodeos, a “Bull-A-Rama,” and live music.

For the more adventurous, the Clark Fork River provides whitewater rafting until the first week of September.  The Clark Fork River itself cuts through a deep canyon and is accented by mountains.  It runs through downtown Missoula and accents the town’s activities and heritage.  The Clark Fork River Market, for example, sets up right next to the river, offering “Hometown honky tonk favorites.”

Further south, Kalispell is within close proximity to Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake, and a handful of national wilderness areas.  They offer more opportunities to boat, ski, kayak and fish.  There are numerous chalets and cabins available for rent, even some houseboats.
