They may only happy once a year, but our nation’s birthday celebrations always seem to bring out the best in us! As Canada turns 145 this year, we were curious to try and find the city that puts on the best events. So here’s what we came up with:
1. White Rock, BC
Canada Day by the Bay is held every year in White Rock and includes live bands, bouncy castles, barbecues, and of course, fireworks!
2. Sylvan Lake, AB
This small Alberta town hosts a parade (March of Canadians) on the way to the pier. When the sun goes down? The light show begins!
3. Parry Sound, ONT
Cottage country is the best place to be for the long weekend, so if you know someone who has a place on the water, now is the time to take them up on that invite!
4. North Bay, ONT
From the Regatta to the Road Race, there is plenty to do in the morning and afternoon before heading down to the waterfront for the fireworks finale.
5. Montreal, QC
Fête du Canada! Try the mega-sized cake, join in on the parade, check out a skateboarding demo and do a little line dancing! As the host of the International Fireworks Competition, you can also expect a big bang at the end of the night!
6. Halifax, NS
The up and coming band Mother Mother highlights the main event at Dartmouth Crossing this July 1st, but you can’t pass up the Halifax tradition of The Great Canadian Family Fun Fest which is fun for all! Did we mention there will be fireworks?
7. Charlottetown, PEI
Hang out at the waterfront all weekend to catch some great musical acts including The Tragically Hip as they ring in another Canada Day at Confederation Landing.
8. Ottawa, ONT
Canada Day in the Capital is the place to be to truly experience our nation’s 145th birthday! Take in the Carillon concert, a flag raising ceremony, the changing of the guard as well as countless street performers before capping the night off with the President’s Choice Fireworks.
