Celebrate the Harvest Moon with a feast

The second annual Frankenmuth Farmers Market Feast of the Harvest Moon is Tuesday, September 13th at Zehnder’s Restaurant starting at 5pm with a Cash Bar. Dinner and Program will follow at 6pm. The creative talents of Frankenmuth’s own John Zehnder, Executive Chef of Zehnder’s will be serving a wonderful menu of locally grown products to delight this year’s diners. The theme for this year is The Victory Garden: a Homegrown Effort of Patriotic Strength and Local Sustenance.

“I always try to do something different for these dinners,” Zehnder said. “After all, the market is right next door, at the north end of our parking lot. I’m a big one for doing things by the season, too.

“But even more, especially as I get older, I enjoy getting into the story of the food, telling diners what’s behind what they’re eating. I could just serve the Lake Superior Whitefish Ardussi with Wild Rice Pilaf and they would like it, but it’s like looking at a photograph. They’ll appreciate it even more when they hear the tradition behind it, how it’s caught in colder temperatures of Lake Superior, and they’ll understand why it tastes good.”
