Peanut Butter prices going up – stock up now!

Canadian consumers could soon feel an extra twinge in their wallets when they go to pay for their favourite brand of peanut butter at the supermarket.

Thanks to smaller U.S. peanut crop yields because of a drought in the southern U.S and a decision by American farmers to seed less acreage in peanut crops and plant more cotton, the price of a regular jar of peanut butter — even the organic kind you buy at health food stores — is likely going to go up sometime this year.

And while Canadian manufacturers of peanut butter are reluctant to be specific about when or by how much prices may go up, all the signals point to a price increase — and perhaps one of gigantic proportions.
