Crossing the Border

You can look ahead at the hourly updated border wait times here. Before heading through customs, a quick stop by the duty-free store is a staple of every trip.

Duty-Free stores offer considerable savings on your favourite brands, but they also offer washrooms, great snack options, and have ATMs and currency exchange, making for a perfect one-stop shop. Pro tip: Some Duty Free stores even have free wifi for guests.

Be sure to fill out the ArriveCAN app before you hit the road to come home, to prevent delays at the border. You can fill in the ArriveCAN app within 72 hours of arriving at the border, so look out for free wifi hubs!

Keep car rides fun!

Depending on how long your trip is or how many hours you’ll be in the car, having a repertoire of solid podcasts and music is a must. You can download podcasts on almost every streaming platform, which comes in handy if you aren’t roaming or lose cell service.

If you have kids, there are a ton of kid-friendly podcasts designed for long car rides that are fun for kids and adults.

Allowances

When you’re heading back home, it’s important to remember the rules for how much you can bring back. You can find your personal allowances here. Thinking you might go over? You can use this calculator to estimate duty and tax amounts you might pay.
