Fire will help the moose but hurts Minnesota
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is considered by many to be one of the top scenic destinations in Minnesota. Roughly 10 percent of the area has been burned in a forest fire which started August 18th. The park is home to a significant portion of Minnesota’s moose population. While biologists state that the damage could actually benefit the moose, damage to the park could hamper Explore Minnesota’s efforts to posit the region as a place of calm and serenity. New York State can celebrate Irene’s end
Labour Day weekend events promise to lighten up the mood as tropical storm leaves The only floodgates opening this Labour Day weekend will be the US border crossings in anticipation of one of the busiest weekends for travellers crossing the border. Events like the National Buffalo Wing Festival will make room for hungry travellers looking for something to spice up their weekend. Vermont welcomes French-Canadians
Scenic Vermont sends a message to its northern neighbours: Canadians are bienvenue. Burlington city council unanimously passed motion to encourage local businesses to put up more French signs and get their employees to learn the language. Norman Blais, the councillor who sponsored the motion, told The Canadian Press “We really want people to know we’re putting out the welcome mat.” Deputy Commissioner Steve Cook of the Vermont tourism office said that Canadian travel agencies are ordering twice as many Vermont travel guides this year.
